How long was the club open for? I remember hearing about it being in Miami but only around for a year or so.

In late 1989, Prince opened a nightclub in Minneapolis named after the song and partially decorated with paintings by Brian Canfield Mitchell. After eight years of frustration vis-a-vis its more established rival First Avenue, he sold it to new owners, who renamed it The Quest. The club became one of the premier nightspots in the Twin Cities, rivaling First Avenue as a live music venue, before closing in 2006amid financial and security problems. The building was reconfiguredfollowing the closure and reopened as the nightclub Epic.Other Glam Slam clubs have been opened in Miami (Glam Slam East),Los Angeles (Glam Slam West), and Yokohama (Glam Slam Yokohama); allhave since closed, or closed and reopened under new management not tiedto Prince.

I miss Glam Slam. I remember back in 1994, he would open the upstairs VIP room after hours (1am) for the "Erotic City" party. Since it was after hours and they couldn't sell alcohol, all of us 18 plus'ers were allowed in. They had screens that flashed unreleased video content and some lyrics from yet-to-be-released songs (Gold, Come & Exodus stuff). They sold some of the NPG Store merchandise. They had live dancers, one of whom went to my high school, which is how I found out about it in the first place. They had delicious catered food for the first month or so which was free, and then then they started selling Domino's Pizza by the slice (hah!). You could usually count on seeing Prince roaming through the crowd with a Tootsie Pop in his mouth and a couple bodyguards, which was extremely exciting to an 18 year old Prince fanatic. One night, he came and debuted the just-finished Love Sign video which everyone loved. Another night (the one night my friends went but I didn't), he put on a short performance on the tiny VIP stage. Ah..those were the days.
