The VIC-20 was going up against competition such as the Atari 2600.
At the time Computers were only used in the office and computers such asApple was making for the home market were in 4 digit price range.
Where as the VIC-20 was sold for $299 new and could run rings around the competition and was easier to program to boot.
Within months of it's release it was the worlds biggest selling computer.
It was only out done by it's replacement system the Commodore 64 or C-64 which still holds the sales record till this day.
The C-64 was an 8 bit system which was years ahead of the first 8-bit video game system- the NES
Commodore also was the first to produce a 32 bit CD-Rom video game system.
It was released in 1993 , years ahead of anyone else, but at the timethe company had fallen into poor management like many of the 80'scompanies.
After the company went under these CD32 were used and are still in use in many Video Game Cabinets.
They were also used to run the exhibits at the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden

Here are a few more facts while I'm on the subject-
The C-64 users in the US were the first group of computer programmers to set up a Bulletin Board system amongst themselves.
In effect creating the first Internet in 1983 and today's HTML codelanguage was based on the Operating System of the Commodore 64.

Commodore 64/128 users still use the internet and mod their systems with modern technology.
