    Madonna, who´s that girl?

Post by fkkScoop on Tue Apr 06, 2010 1:41 am

Not MJ, Not The Beatles...not Prince Laughing
    MADONNA IS THE "THE"

Madonna 'most played' artist of decade
Madonna was the only female solo singer to make the top 10
Madonna was the most played artist of the last decade in the UK, according to music licensing body PPL.
The singer, 51, who had her first UK hit with Holiday in 1984, beat The Beatles into second place and Robbie Williams into third.
Queen were fourth and Take That were fifth in the chart compiled for BBC Radio 2.
It was based on plays - between 2000 and 2009 - on TV, radio and in public places including pubs, clubs and shops.
PPL collects royalties for sound recordings.
Madonna was the only female solo singer to make the top 10.

    MOST-PLAYED OF THE DECADE
    1. Madonna
    2. The Beatles
    3. Robbie Williams
    4. Queen
    5. Take That
    6. Sugababes
    7. Elton John
    8. Elvis Presley
    9. Abba
    10. Coldplay

Girl band Sugababes, meanwhile, who entered the UK charts for the first time in 2000 with Overload, were the only act in the top 10 who emerged within the decade being scrutinised.
The chart was revealed on Radio 2 show People's Artist Chart, presented by comedian Patrick Kielty.
In December, PPL announced that Snow Patrol song Chasing Cars was the most widely-played song of the decade.
Last year, another chart compiled for Radio 2 - also by PPL - found that Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale was the most played song in public places in the previous 75 years.
The song, which features a distinctive organ riff, stayed at number one for six weeks in the UK in the summer of 1967.

the most worrying thing is tht none of those artists actually belong to last decade (maybe Coldplay does?). In any case, it shows that last decade's new musicians didn't succeed in pushing the oldies from their thrones ...

Before you complain about UK music taste, Maxim, wait until you see what Belgian radio stations play!!! (I had to run away from it ...)

So , as for the UK having no taste, please bear in mind that this was based on public performance, so it's based on a third party second guessing what one person would like.. as with all lists, the idea is to provoke a reaction rather than be a true barometer of taste..
And anyway, if the radio and public place s played what you liked, would you then be happy?
The most optimistic way of looking at all these list type programmes is that they appeal to the lowest common denominator at all times and should be treated as such.
Popular does not equate to talented, not around here anyway.

There are, as the Blues Brothers once said, 2 types of music, that which we like and that which we might like in another time and space...

I thought Purpleblues WAS about 60% of the UK Cd-buying market?!
Strange he didn't make more of a difference.
Or he is a big Madonna fan ...

what scares me most is that in 8-10 years, Maceo's Elsa & Ymaginatif's Clara will be screaming at the 2018 no talent boy group of the moment....

Well if it is any comfort Maceo, My Eva thinks they are clowns. She likes Beyonce! Which is OK by me! She will serve as an intro to Billie and Ella.

I heard Hannah singing 'My name is Prince, and I am comfy' the other day - so that's a good sign already!

That aside, she likes the Beatles (the White Album), Paul McCartney solo (Jet) and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (Hunting Tigers Out In India)
